The Studio 180 Design Technique Sheets! from Quilting Affection

One thing I like about Studio 180 Design is how they expand the ways you can use your tools. Not only through their beautiful pattern but in their Technique Sheets.

Many of you are wondering what a Technique Sheet is? They are single laminated hole punch sheets. Each technique will expand your use of the tools and broaden your skills for more design creativity. Each of the Technique Sheets will provide you with detailed instructions, cutting charts, and drawings.

There are 31 Technical sheets for all Studio 180 Design tools, except for the Rapid Fire Hunter’s Star and the ...

Non Waste Method Flying Geese - Wing Clipper Tool from Quilting Affection

Last week, I showed you how to make the Quickets in my Block Party Block #18, "Pointed Square."  This week, I want to continue with the Wing Clipper tool showing you how to make Flying Geese.

The Wing Clipper tool is one of the Studio 180 Design fundamental tools that I talked about in my blog post, "What Studio 180 Design Tools Should I start with?."  This tool was created to make traditional Flying Geese units.

The construction method of these units uses the Non-Waste Method, which uses one large and four small squares to make four flying geese at ...

Studio 180 Design Challenge Block Reveal from Quilting Affection

Over the last couple of months, several of the Studio 180 Design Certificated Instructors, including myself, have been participating in a Block Exploration Challenge.  Each month we design a block using a Studio 180 Design tool or technique, and every week we reveal a piece of the block on our Instagram pages.

This month's blocks challenge was to design and make a block around the Shaded Four Patch.  This is a fun little Technique by Studio 180 Design

I decided to design my block, which I'm calling Entangled Octagon, to use this technique with a little kick. I ...

Journey to Nebula - Rock Candy - Cutting the Star 60 Way! from Quilting Affection

Now that I have finished my Jaw Breaker pillow, it was time to move onto the next project in the Journey 2 Nebula Quilt Along.

The next project is Rock Candy Tabletopper.  This is a fun quilt that is made by combining diamonds and side triangles.  The pattern calls for the use of 5" charm squares. I choose to use black background Island Batik fabric and 6 Coordinating fabrics; all were cut into 2 1/2" strips.  The reason I used 2 1/2" strips over the 5" charm squares is that not every 5" charm square package is actually ...

Journey to Nebula - Finishing Jawbreaker pillow from Quilting Affection

I'm a little behind on my Journey 2 Nebula projects; life seems to change your plans when it involves quilting.

The last blog post on my Journey 2 Nebula project was cutting Jawbreaker triangles using the Studio 180 Design Star 60 tool. Read the first post Here.

Then I arranged the triangles according to the directions spinning the triangles as you would be arranging your blocks for a One Block Wonder Quilt, so they make a shape, but you will also notice that they are also set up rows. Adding the extra pieces to fill in the gaps.

After ...

Journey to Nebula Quilt Along - Jawbreaker - Cutting Star 60 way from Quilting Affection

Week 5 in the Journey 2 Nebula has started with the making of the "Jawbreaker" pillow by Jaybird Quilts. When finished, this pillow will measure 20".

This pattern is written by Hex N More Ruler by Jaybird Quilts, but I will be using the Studio 180 Design Star 60 tool to do all my cutting. I'm using fabrics from the Island Batik "Islander Batik" Collection that I have been using for the last 2 projects.

The pattern calls for eight 2 1/2" x WOF strips, so I pulled out eight coordinating strips that I could use as ...

Journey to Nebula - Lucky Charm Finishing from Quilting Affection

Welcome back to my Journey 2 Nebula blog posts. I got a little behind on my blog for Week #3, finishing the "Lucky Charm" pillow.  If you would like to see how I cut my Half Hexagons pieces check out my blog post on Cutting the Star 60 way, HERE.

The first thing I did after I finished cutting out my pieces was to arrange them the way I wanted the pillow to look in the front.

Once I had them all arranged, I still had 10 of the Half Hexagons leftover, which will be filled in on the sides ...

Happy New Year, Goals for 2020! from Quilting Affection

Happy New Year and Welcome to 2020!

Yesterday, in my blog, I reflected on my goals of 2019, what I accomplished, and what got neglected. So today, I want to share my 2020 and beyond goals.

My personal goal for this year is to become physically and mentally fit. I will start by continuing my healthy eating program, Isagenix. But I will add in daily exercise to help clear my mind, build strength to help make it through the stressful time of the Quilt Markets. I also want to find some personal development podcasts and audible books for more personal ...
